Physicians Leadership Institute
There is ample data to indicate that physician leadership development is not only important, it is a necessary to avoid litigation, medical confusion, and unacceptable clinical outcomes. One of the primary reasons physicians need leadership development is that they have historically aimed at providing world-class clinical outcomes while neglecting underdeveloped interpersonal skills. Sydney Wolfe, MD with Public Citizens Health Research Group states, “A doctor can’t get away with being a technical whiz and an interpersonal jerk.” Doctors are more likely to be sued if a patient feels the doctor is rude, rushes visits, or fails to answer questions. This behavior often carries over into their relationships with caregivers, peer physicians, and hospital administration.
